O Cotidiano (Day-to-Day) – Valeria Berreta (Argentina)

Cabaré - O Cotidiano

O Cotidiano is the ticket to visit the place of a woman who everyday dives into her cruel reality: being alone, raising her children away from her country. It is a tragicomic piece about the everyday life of a housewife and the hopes and wishes of a woman who wants to have a family. In the simple daily routine, in which everything is repetitive, there is a beam of hope that the tragic destiny of loneliness can change. Clowness Benedita portraits the reality of thousands of women who fight to survive and raise their children on their own.

De repente, Grávida?! (Suddenly Pregnant?!) – Aline Oliveira (RJ)

Cabare, de repente grávida

Pregnancy is a very delicate period, full of surprises for both women and men. However, women are a little more sensitive to it. If physical transformations and changes of humor are true to all women, imagine what happens to a clowness when she finds out that she is Suddenly Pregnant?! From the clowness’ point of view, this number playfully approaches the feelings and ideas that take place when a woman understands she is pregnant and how she realizes the strangeness of suddenly being responsible for a new being.

Direction: Fernando Lopes Lima
Performance: Palhaça Olivia – Aline de Oliveira

Margarita-e-eu

After more than 10 years of solo performances in Brazil, Margarita celebrates her 25 birthday by performing a number with a partner, a male partner (!) who’s known all over the world!
The starting point of this number comes from the clowness’ need to expand her abilities. This may be the reason that led Russell Crowe to accept participating in the creation and performance of “Margarita and I”.
In order to meet the needs of a guest who has such a peculiar personality and who doesn’t speak our language, it was a must to have a “tamer” to intervene.

They are light and funny, with moments of refined wit and a quick and direct rapport with the audience.

In this show, Sabonete decides to prepare a surprise dinner party for Benedita, but he needs Benedita herself to help him out. The surprise party has unexpected results, in which love, peace and laughter prevail, leading them to the best situation. Or not? We don’t know if the food tastes good, but everything around it is delicious!

Pachaska---foto-Magdalena-Patiño-Roquero

Pachaska is a housewife who leads a very regular life, until one day a ray revolves her insides. She can hear her uterus, and it tells her that she should go home, so rescuing a threatened species from extinction, that of “wild women”. She doesn’t know how to do it, but accepts the challenge. She awkwardly starts her first steps, performs rituals and practices that teach her to become more powerful, as in an initiation rite. Conflicts emerge. Her lack of knowledge and her contradictions make her feel lost, but she asks questions while she looks at herself in the mirror and dives deeply into emotional states in which she has to fight all her inside monsters. She needs to recover her feminine essence and goes on a trip that will take her away from home, that will make her lead her own life and discover new worlds in the twilight of fantasy and reality.

Along with the international tendency to do away with imposing ‘perfection’ patterns established by a model of society extremely based on a masculine perspective that limits freedom and independence of genres, the exhibit Palhaças Peladas intends to add up to this cultural revolution, which, this time, through virtual communication, reaches a historical expansion that is as gigantic as necessary. In order to be a clowness, one needs to undress and take social, aesthetical and individual stereotypes off. Our bodies are our working tools, which, naked and through humor, paints in bright colors the free possibility to be what one wants to be or simply to enjoy what he has. Palhaças Peladas is, above all, a manifesto that humorously celebrates difference in order to color a freer world. Welcome to our place!

Lecture – No Photoshop – Starting from the principle that being a clown is to express one’s beliefs and inability to cope with society, we wonder about what we, clownesses, want to say when we choose this profession. Woman, your “imperfections” belong to you and that is why they make you unique.

Pehaps,-Pehaps,-quizás---foto-Pepe-Castillo

Greta represents us, women, today, with our past values in search of human connections, with our romanticism that leads us to dream with something bigger than the earthly everyday reality and inspires us to believe in other people and in ourselves. Greta is also the fragility of our emotions and the vulnerability brought up by the fears that lead us nowadays. Greta lives the duality of madness and sanity, tenderness and repulsion, of hope and despair. GRETA is all of us. All of us are GRETA!
“Perhaps, perhaps, quizás…” is a performance in which a clowness has the illusion of finding ‘the perfect man’ and waits for him, while she experiences the loneliness that her illusion implies, since she herself is so imperfect. While the prison in time and the lack of hope are imminent, our character, Greta, once a week, rehearses for the big day, her wedding day. “Will I get lucky tonight? Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps…”.
